L-R: A former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dr. Sule Kano; ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Isa; and Vice President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, at a press conference by ASUU, in Abuja ... on Monday.

Public universities lecturers across the country on Monday failed to resume to work as directed by the Federal Government.
Investigation conducted by our correspondents on Monday revealed that academic activities were still paralysed on campuses across the country.
Lecturers in public universities in Lagos, Ibadan, Jos, Enugu, Nsukka, Zaria, Minna, Benin, Port Harcourt, Akure, Abeokuta, and Abuja largely snubbed the government’s order.
For instance, lecturers at the Federal University of Technology Akure, failed to resume for work contrary to the  directive of the Federal Government.
Our correspondent gathered that the school was still closed because the senate of the university was yet to meet.
A source closed to the management of the university said “Only the Senate can reopen the school, the vice-chancellor on his own cannot reopen the school.”
The Obafemi Awolowo University chapter of ASUU has said that members of the union will not succumb to blackmails from the Federal Government to resume work.
The chairman of ASUU in the institution, Prof. Akinola Adegbola, said this in an interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Monday.
Although there was no visible presence of policemen on the campus Akinola vowed that the union was ready for any action the government wanted to take on the striking lecturers.
Also, at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, lecturers on Monday resolved not to call off the strike insisting that its members would not sign the register opened for them by the institution.
The ASUU, FUT, Minna Chapter, through its chairman, Fatai Jimoh, said it was in support of the national leadership of the union to remain on strike until the union’s demands were met.
The  Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna State, on Monday remained deserted as students, lecturers stayed away.
The same scenario played out at the University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, University of Benin and University of Port Harcourt on Monday.
A  visit by our correspondent to the Samaru and the Kongo campuses of the institution showed that the Federal Government and the striking university  teachers were in a long drawn battle as neither the lecturers nor the students had heeded to the government threat.
The branch Chairman of the ASUU, Dr Mohammed Kabir-Aliyu, warned parents against  allowing  their wards/children to risks their lives by resuming to school.
Academic activities failed to resume at the Enugu and Nsukka campuses of the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the Enugu State University of Technology on Monday.
Plain clothes police officers were on Monday noticed within the two campuses of University of Nigeria.
The PUNCH learnt that the cops took strategic positions within and outside the Enugu and Nsukka campuses of UNN as early as 7am.
The situation seemed heightened at the permanent site of Enugu State University of Technology in Agbani area as soldiers were seen moving around the campus.

Did Chris Okotie really say all Catholics will go to hell because they worship satan?

From PM News Nigeria

All Catholics in the world will go to hell because they worship Satan and are led by an Anti-Christ Pope who is a friend to the devil, Nigeria’s controversial preacher Chris Okotie, told his congregation on Sunday, leaving members bewildered.
Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Lagos, said the Catholic church is “a counterfeit church set up by Satan” and that Catholics “bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus’ body.”
“They are not Christians and have never been. They don’t know Jesus. They believe that when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It’s ritual,” Okotie told a stunned congregation.
If he really said this then it's a damn shame. Is this pastor really a man of God? He can't make his marriages work and now he's condemning a religious denomination? See the rest of what he allegedly said yesterday after the cut...

First Solar-Powered Family Car Unveiled

The world’s first solar-powered family car that can travel 420 miles on a sunny day and creates twice much energy as it uses has been produced.
The car, called Stella, and produced by a team of engineers from the Eindhoven University of Technology, in Netherlands, is also the world’s first ‘energy positive’ car, according to an online publication, Daily mail.
It said the vehicle could seat four and travel twice as far as an electric car before recharging.
Using large solar panels that are placed on the roof of the car, ‘Stella’ could travel 250 miles without sunshine and on a sunny day, when fully charged, it can drive up to 420 miles, it stated.
It noted, “This is nearly twice as far as a standard electric car can travel before it needs to be charged up.”
Made with the latest in lightweight materials, such as high grade aluminum and carbon fibre, the car weighs a mere 380kg, 120kg lighter than the average electrical car.
The Team Manager, Lex Hoefsloot, at Eindhoven University of Technology, said, “Because the car is standing still 90 per cent of the time in front of your house or your office, we found out that in 10 out of the 12 months of the year, the car provided more energy than it uses.
“The car also produces twice the amount of energy needed to drive normal distances and soon our car will be granted a license plate by the Dutch authorities. We strongly believe that the car of the future is much lighter, aerodynamic and more efficient.”
He stressed that solar panels were the solution for a sustainable future, noting that they could increase the range of the car.
Giving the cost of the solar cells on the roof of the car as £2,600, he stated, “The car is still expensive because it is a prototype and it is hand-made, but when the production is scaled up, the car could be just as affordable as a normal family car.”
The team leader, however, said future designs would focus on making the car even more comfortable, practical and energy efficient.

Make Money with Your Blog

Blogging for money, i.e., making money with a blog, is relatively easy if you have enough regular readers, but you have to make sure you don’t disrupt your credibility. Whether you’re joining affiliate programs, selling ad space, or doing sponsored posts, you need to make sure that the information is still relevant to your readers. Writing about a product none of your readers wants or posting a good review about a bad product just because someone is paying you to will make you lose readers and money.
Increasing your reader base
To make money from a blog, you need to get readers. To do this, you need to update regularly with SEO-friendly posts and buy your own domain name. Even if you are with a free host, spending $10 a year for a domain instead of a sub domain is well worth it. It is a lot harder to rank on search engines without one.
There are other ways to increase your reader base. Finding a forum related to the topic of your blog is a great way to earn readers. Don’t just advertise your blog, though, or you will become a nuisance and likely be banned from the forum. Instead, put a link to your blog in your forum signature and work on being a valuable member of the online community. If people appreciate your contributions to the forum, they’ll likely click on your link.
You can also make a Twitter account that is associated with your blog and, if your friends will be interested in your blog, post links on Facebook as well. They might read it and refer more people to it. Twitterfeed is a site that will check your blog regularly and post links to your new blog posts on your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts. Again, you want to become a part of the online community. Don’t use Twitter or Facebook just to promote your blog. Make sure you post other status updates, too. If all you do is post links to your blog, people will likely start ignoring your posts.
All this will make it easy for people to find your blog in the first place. However, the goal is to have people who come back regularly. This can be achieved by adding subscription links so that people get notified of new posts in a feed reader or via e-mail.
Affiliate Programs
Affiliate programs are one of the easiest ways to make money with your blog. When you sign up for an affiliate program online, they give you an affiliate link, which you can post on your blog or website. Then, you get a percentage of the earnings when someone clicks on your link to buy something.
Some affiliate programs will have you promoting only one product on your blog. Others let you promote multiple products through the same program. You will likely make more money if you concentrate on one program, because most programs will have a minimum amount of money that you have to earn before you can cash out. This means that if you divide your efforts between too many programs you might have a few dollars on each account, but you might not have enough on any account to retrieve your earnings. Therefore, you will likely make more money by signing up for one of the programs that let you promote multiple products.
The Amazon Associates program is a great one to start a money-making campaign on your blog. You can promote any product available on Amazon.com (which sells just about anything you can think of) and earn up to 15% of each sale. The site offers many tools to let you promote products however you want. You can make custom text or banner links of any product. You can even make widgets to advertise all your favourite products beside your blog.
If you want to earn money with your blog through affiliate programs, you have to make sure to retain your credibility. Link to products that you have used before and that your readers will be interested in. Post an honest review of the product on your blog. If you write a positive review about a horrible product, you might make a lot of money initially – but you will end up losing readers, trust, business and money.
There are many affiliate programs available for bloggers who want to make money online. Amazon has enough products to cater to just about any audience, and a quick search will bring up many other affiliate programs related to your blog’s topic.
Advertising Programs
Advertising programs are often called affiliate programs and they work in basically the same way. You sign up, get an affiliate link, promote it on your blog and earn commission. However, instead of writing about or linking to specific products you are usually linking to the company itself.
As with the affiliate programs, it is more profitable to only use one or two programs that offer a lot of options. There are a few websites that function as a meeting point between advertisers and bloggers. These sites are the most beneficial for both advertisers and bloggers. Advertisers can approve or deny applicants as they see fit, making sure they are only advertising on sites they think are appropriate. Likewise, bloggers can pick and choose which companies are most beneficial to their readers to maximize their earnings. The best part is that your earnings from all the websites are pooled into one place and one paycheque.
The Google Affiliate Network and LinkConnector are probably the biggest advertising programs there are. No matter what the topic of your blog is, you can likely find many companies to advertise for and start earning money. Google also provides tutorial pages with tips on where to place your ads in order for them to be the most successful.
Sponsored Posts
There are many sites for bloggers who want to do sponsored posts. A couple of the most popular ones are PayPerPost and Smorty. On both of these sites you simply sign up, describe your blog and wait for offers. Then you can choose to accept the offer, write a post and get paid – or, if the offer isn’t a good one for your blog, you can choose not to do it. Smorty also offers a post exchange which serves to boost your SEO as well as your ranking on the site.
You need to be careful with your sponsored posts. There is an ongoing debate about them in the blogging world. One side thinks they are a great way to earn money as long as your reviews are honest. The other side thinks that a blogger is instantly discredited when they accept a sponsored post. Why? Because, obviously, whoever is paying for the post wants a positive review. So a bad product might get a good review for the sake of a paycheque.
This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do sponsored posts. It just means that you should choose your sponsors carefully. You might not get very many offers when you start out, but if you jump at every opportunity and you aren’t honest you will never make much money.
Patience
One of the easiest ways to make money online these days is blogging. All you need to get started is an interesting topic, a domain name and some spare time. However, you cannot expect your efforts to pay off instantly. Don’t give up if you don’t get a paycheque right away. Continue to update your blog with posts that will be interesting and informative to your readers and the money will follow in time.

Make Money on Reading E-mails

You can actually make money online reading e-mails and clicking on the included ads. You join a “Get Paid To (GPT)” site/program, usually giving them your name, email and other demographic information, and the site/program owner delivers advertisers ads to your email box, and you click on the link in the email to visit the advertisers’ website. Usually you get paid cash or “points” for reading and clicking. Most of those sites also offer other ways to get paid such as shop and sign-up offers.
The catch is that most of these “GetPaidTo” sites are short lived – for some reason, they don’t survive for a long time, they come and go. It’s not uncommon to hear people complaining they are scam! Also, a majority of those sites pay really low, they usually pay less than one cent, which make them not worth your time!
Tip: if you do those low paying (1 cents or less per email) paid to read emails, make sure you cash out as soon as you reach payout – you never know when they are going to close their doors!
However, there are a few honest, reliable and high paying sites that actually worth joining – Below are the BEST paying PTR sites, all pay 1 cent and up
www.dealsncash.com – They pay $5.00 for sign up, $0.02 – $0.05 for each email/ad. They also have a double tier referral system. Minimum cash out requirement is $30. (Please make sure your Email provider does not block DealsnCash. DealsnCash is the highest paying PTR program, and they have plenty ads if you select the right categories.
www.hits4pay.com – You receive $10 in your account when sign up as a member. They send you emails according to your interest. You earn $0.02 for each email. Your cash out is $25.00. They also have a two-tier referral system.
MyPoints – You earn 5 points, which worth about $0.03 for reading an email, and cash out minimum is 1500 points ($10). They also send surveys that offer 10 – 50 points, you earn 10 points if disqualify. I have cashed out quite a few Walmart gift certificates and they send the cards very quickly.
InBoxDollars – You get $5 just for signing up at Inboxdollar. They pay $0.05 for each email, and you can also earn $0.02 for each “Cash Search” on their site. You can also earn from taking daily surveys, completing paid offers and from your referrals. You must earn at least $30.00 to request a cheque.
SendEarnings - You get $5.00 sign up bonus. They pay $0.05 for each email, and you can also make money by taking daily surveys, completing offers and shopping. Minimum payout is $30.
MatrixMails – Get paid $0.01 for each email, minimal payout is only $2.00. (Also do a lot of pay to click, pay to play … etc).
